Felvásárolta a Motorola hálózati részlegének jelentős részét a Nokia Siemens Networks.

Úgy tűnik, hogy a Motorola telefonos és hálózati részlegének szétválasztása sokkal komolyabb változásokat hoz majd, mint arra eredetileg számítani lehetett. Nemrég még arról lehetett hallani, hogy a külön cégként útnak induló mobiltelefonos egység a nyereségesen üzemelő hálózati üzletágtól kap majd nagyobb kezdőtőkét a sikeres újrakezdéshez, ám mára kiderült, hogy a pénz forrását a legnagyobb konkurens jelenti. A Nokia Siemens Networks és a Motorola ma jelentették be, hogy az amerikai gyártó hálózati üzletágának jelentős része, az iDEN üzletág és a kapcsolódó hálózati szabadalmak kivételével a Nokia Siemens Networks kezébe kerül, mely 7.500 alkalmazott átvételét is jelenti. A várhatóan az év végéig lezáruló 1,2 milliár dollár értékű akvizíció a finn-német gyártó számára fontos előrelépést jelent a CDMA üzletágban, mely révén 50 új szolgáltatói partnerre is szert tesz, illetve tovább erősíti kapcsolatát a China Mobile, a Clearwire, a KDDI, a Sprint, a Verizon Wireless és a Vodafone csoporttal is. Richard J. Lynch, az amerikai Verizon Wireless vezetője szerint a két hálózati részleg összeolvadása a teljes piac számára igen komoly előnnyel járhat, ráadásul a Verizon ebből külön is profitálhat, hiszen eddig a Motorola és a Nokia Siemens Networks is beszállítója volt. A Motorola hálózati részlege GSM, CDMA, WCDMA (3G), illetve 4G WiMAX és LTE megoldásokkal is bír, ráadásul a WiMAX területén 21 ország 41 szolgáltatójával áll kapcsolatban. A két cég együttműködése a felvásárlással várhatóan nem ér véget, ugyanis a tervek szerint a Motorola biztonságtechnikai és közbiztonsági megoldásai a Nokia Siemens Networks LTE technológiái köré épülnek majd.
