A tengerentúlon mobil szolgáltatók szövetkeztek a bankkártyás tranzakciókat feldolgozó cégekkel, hogy élesben próbálják ki az okostelefonokkal történő fizetéseket. Sikerük komoly változásokat hozhat magával.
A hírben arról olvashatunk, hogy három nagy mobilszolgáltató egyeztette terveit a Discovery, valamint a Barclay hasonló elképzeléseivel, ezzel pedig hamarosan konkrét lépésekre kerülhet sor az élesben történő kipróbálást illetően. Egészen pontosan az AT&T, a Verizon Wireless, valamint a T-Mobile USA lépett szövetségre a két másik vállalattal, ami azt jelzi, hogy a nagyok is komolyan érdeklődnek a terület iránt.
Az újdonsült partnerek egyelőre cégvezetőt keresnek a közös lépések tervezett kivitelezéséhez, az ő feladata lenne az erőfeszítések összehangolása és a végrehajtás felügyelete. Az első körben Atlantában, valamint három másik amerikai városban vonnának be helyi üzleteket a programba, itt válna lehetővé az okostelefonokkal történő kényelmes és egyszerű fizetés, amely idővel kiválthatja a hagyományos bankkártyákat. Hogy ez mekkora jelentőséggel bír, azt jól jelzi, hogy a mintegy 300 millió amerikai állampolgár birtokában több mint egymilliárd bankkártya van, az utóbbi időben pedig egyre nagyobb gondot jelentett a tranzakciók feldolgozásával kapcsolatos költségek (általában 2-3 százaléknyi jutalék) kifizetése.
A lépés persze azt is mutatja, hogy a Discovery ily módon igyekszik előnyre szert tenni riválisaival szemben – a cég eddig is főként Észak-Amerikában tudott érvényesülni a Visa és a Mastercard fölényével szemben, ezen lépésükkel azonban végre komolyan teret nyerhetnek. A technológiai hátteret az NFC (Near Field Communication) chipek adják, amelyeket kicsiny méretüknél fogva könnyedén beépíthetnek az okostelefonokba. A tervek szerint a vásárlónak csak el kell majd húznia készülékét a leolvasó előtt, a tranzakció pedig azonnal megtörténne.
A chipek beépítése az amerikai jóslatok szerint mintegy 10-15 dolláros többletköltséget jelentene telefononként, a leolvasók pedig nagyjából 200 dollárt kóstálnának.

Those concerned with privacy will be relieved to know you can prevent the public from seeing your personal listening habits if you so choose.
